Effects of Integrating an Intelligent Question Answering (IQA) Tool into a Virtual Reality-based Flipping Learning (VR-FL) Approach on Vocational Nursing Students' Learning Achievements and Motivation

Nursing education plays a pivotal role in cultivating professionals who are proficient in both medical procedures and patient care. However, traditional teaching methods often prioritize theoretical knowledge at the expense of practical experience, resulting in a disconnect between theory and practice. To address this issue, the present study proposes an integrated approach that combines the interactivity of virtual reality (VR), the personalized learning capabilities of intelligent question answering (IQA), and a flipped learning model that promotes active student engagement. This research employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a non-equivalent control group and a pre-test-post-test methodology. The study was conducted in the Department of Nursing at a vocational medical college, involving 65 second-year nursing students. The findings revealed a significant increase in students' post-test scores, indicating a marked improvement in learning outcomes. Furthermore, students' intrinsic motivation experienced a notable enhancement, although there was no significant change in extrinsic motivation. Qualitative feedback from students' self-assessments demonstrated improved learning efficacy, a deeper understanding of concepts, and enhanced teamwork skills, while also identifying areas for improvement within the IQA system. The study suggests that a teaching model integrating an intelligent question and answer system (IQA) with virtual reality-based flipped learning (VR-FL) presents a promising new avenue for enhancing the quality of nursing education. This innovative approach not only demonstrates substantial effects on teaching and learning but also indicates considerable potential for application across various other disciplines.
