Millimeter Wave Antenna Design and Optimized for 5 G Band Applications
In the proposed research work, attempt has been done to design and development of microstrip patch antenna which can work in millimeter frequency bands. Circular patch antenna has been chosen whose geometrical parameters i.e. radius and feed dimensions etc. are optimized in such a way that it works beyond 30 GHz. Also, through parametric analysis, dimensions are optimized further in such a way that antenna resonate at 26 GHz, which is useful for 5G communication applications. Simulated performance parameters of the antenna i.e. reflection coefficient, smith impedance plot, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$E$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$H$</tex> plane gain and directivity radiation pattern, axial ratio, main lobe direction, half power bean width (HPBW), side lobe level (SLL), efficiency etc., has been explored. Antenna has been fabricated in a laboratory and experimentally measured for the reflection coefficient. Close resemblance between both validates the methodology.
