Analysis of Double Band Fork Shape Microstrip Patch Antenna

A multiband fork-shaped patch antenna with different dimensions of tines and defected ground structure (DGS) is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna, with compact dimensions of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$28 \times 28 \times 1.6 ~\text{mm}^{3}$</tex>, operates at a center frequency at 5 GHz. By taking different dimensions of tines and DGS, the antenna achieves multiband performance with bandwidths of 370 MHz (5.57 GHz to 5.94 GHz) and 280 MHz (6.06 GHz to 6.34 GHz). It offers a peak gain of 4.67 dBi at 5.72 GHz. These characteristics make the antenna suitable for applications in the C band. Simulations have been performed using Ansys HFSS software to validate the design and performance.
