A Circularly Polarized Quad Band Antenna for Wearable Applications

Wearable antennas are crucial for next-generation wireless applications, offering seamless connectivity in flexible designs. This article presents a miniaturized quadband wearable antenna designed for operation at 2.165 GHz, 3.394 GHz, 5.074GHz and 6.782 GHz, suitable for applications in biomedical monitoring. The antenna, with an ultra-thin profile of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$44 \times 40 ~\text{mm}^{2}$</tex> and a thickness of only 0.2 mm, utilizes a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed to enhance impedance matching and radiation efficiency. The integration of concentric hollow arc cuts significantly improves bandwidth and obtained bands are 2.1 GHz-2.3 GHz, 3.2 GHz—3.6 GHz, 4.7 GHz-5.3 GHz and 6.03 GHz – 7.54 GHz. The simulated results show a gain of 14.93 dB at 2.165 GHz, 5.6 dB at 3.394 GHz, 6.3 dB at 5.074 GHz and 10.8 dB at 6.782 GHz, and exhibits Circular polarization demonstrating superior performance. Owing to its flexibility, high gain, and efficient radiation properties, the proposed antenna is highly suitable for applications in wearable health monitoring, WBAN, Wi-Fi, lower 5G band and C-band Wireless communication applications.
