Design of High Gain Vivaldi Antenna with Substrate-Integrated-Waveguide Feed at L-Band

A high-gain Vivaldi antenna with a SubstrateIntegrated Waveguide (SIW) feed is proposed for L-band applications in this paper. The antenna operates over a frequency range of 1.05 GHz to 1.92 GHz, nearly covering the entire L-band spectrum. To minimize losses and enhance efficiency, an SIW feed has been integrated into the design. Additionally, an edge-slotting technique has been employed to improve radiation at lower frequencies. The antenna is fully metallic and has compact dimensions of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.768 \lambda_{0} \times 0.350 \lambda_{0} \times 0.0035 \lambda_{0}$</tex>. It maintains a stable gain of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$20-22 \text{dBi}$</tex> across the entire operating band. The proposed design can be easily configured into antenna arrays, making it well-suited for radio astronomical applications and other high-gain, global navigational systems.
