AI-Powered Engineering Talents Cultivation - Illustrated by BEng Mechatronics and Robotics Programme at XJTLU
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is posing new challenges to the cultivation of engineering talents, especially in the highly interdisciplinary mechatronics and robotics field as practitioners and students adapt to the dramatic technological upgrades. This paper explores the evolution of educational paradigms through industrial assessments to pinpoint the core characteristics required for robotics programs in the AI era. Three levels of AI technique integration in education are analyzed: AI algorithm development, practical application scenarios and the design of user-friendly interface to enhance the usability. Finally, some solutions for the cultivation of robotics programme are proposed, including cross-departmental staff teaching allocation, the establishment of university-industry tangible platforms and an emphasis on fostering scientific attributes. These approaches are deemed effective in nurturing AI-powered engineering talents.
