Design of Inverted U-Shaped Slot Antenna for Enhanced Gain and Bandwidth Using Defected Ground Structure

This paper presents the design and analysis of an inverted U-shaped slot antenna using DGS (Defected Ground Structure). The antenna design incorporates the use of patch element, pair of parasitic patch, transmission line feed and a substrate made of Rogers RO4350 with thickness of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1. 5 ~ m m}$</tex>. The DGS and parasitic elements are optimized to enhance the antenna's performance which leads to a significant improvement in gain and bandwidth, this proposed antenna achieves return loss −26 dB at 6.4 GHz and gain of 6.3 dBi, bandwidth of 2.73 GHz from (5.39 GHz to 8.12 GHz), VSWR=1.096 making it suitable for various wireless communication system applications.
