Integrated UAV-Assisted mmWave 5G and Edge Computing Framework for Adaptive Smart Agriculture IoT Applications
The proposed solution introduces a state-of-the-art communication framework for smart agriculture, seamlessly integrating UAV-assisted millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G networks, dynamic beamforming, and edge computing. Designed to overcome challenges in complex agricultural environments, the architecture leverages an Urban Microcell Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) path loss model and adaptive Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) selection, ensuring reliable and efficient data transmission. A standout feature is the implementation of network slicing, enabling dynamic bandwidth allocation and real-time prioritization of diverse data streams—such as control signals, high-resolution video, and telemetry—tailored to operational demands. By incorporating edge computing, the framework significantly reduces latency, facilitating real-time decision-making essential for precision agriculture. Analytical assessments demonstrate the robustness of the system under various environmental conditions, offering valuable insights into the relationships between distance, weather, signal integrity, energy consumption, and data rates. This innovative approach establishes a robust, efficient, and sustainable foundation for advancing automation and precision in modern agricultural practices.
