X-Band Surveillance Radar System for Aerial Targets Detection
This paper presents the conceptual design of an X-band surveillance radar system for low altitude aerial targets detection like drones, birds, etc. A generic design flow using commercial electromagnetic solvers is presented. A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based microstrip patch antenna is chosen as an element for the linear antenna array designed as a radar front end for receiving and transmitting electromagnetic (em) energy. The antenna array is designed with a pencil beam in the azimuth plane and a broad beam in elevation to cover the maximum surveillance area for detection. A complete design of the antenna array is presented as well. The work is quite useful for many applications in defence and civilian arenas.
