Conformal Dra With Conformal Fss Loading for C Band Applications

This letter presents the development of a concave conformal frequency selective surface (FSS) designed to enhance radiation characteristics for C -band applications. The FSS is integrated with a concave conformal cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA). The proposed structure is excited using a sinusoidal slot and rectangular aperture feeding. The CDRA is perturbed to enhance antenna's impedance bandwidth. To enhance gain, cylindrically conformal CDRA is placed on a cylindrical surface with a 60 mm radius. Proposed work achieves bandwidth of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$5.5-7.5 \text{GHz}$</tex>, with maximum gain of 7.7 dBi at 6.2 GHz. Across entire band, the antenna maintains an efficiency of over 95 %. Furthermore, the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$1 \times 4$</tex> CDRA array features a low-profile design, measuring <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.14 \lambda_{0}$</tex> in height. The proposed research has potential applications in conformal platforms.
