Microstrip Patch Antenna Array for Ka-Band Downlink Satellite Communication

this paper presents a microstrip patch antenna array made for downlink satellite communication which is designed on the commercially available Computer Simulation Tool (CST) software. The antenna uses three types of materials that are available in order to fabricate, which are FR-4 (lossy), Copper (annealed) and PTFE (lossy), in different elements of the design. Five different configurations of the base antenna are created to see the effect on directivity due to the number of patches and their placement. The final proposed antenna has an overall dimension of 100×100mm with thirteen patches each of dimension 20×20mm for it to reach the desired directivity of 25dBi and is designed to operate in the Ka Band (25 - 40 GHz) with return loss more than -30dB.

this paper presents a microstrip patch antenna array made for downlink satellite communication which is designed on the commercially available Computer Simulation Tool (CST) software. The antenna uses three types of materials that are available in order to fabricate, which are FR-4 (lossy), Copper (annealed) and PTFE (lossy), in different elements of the design. Five different configurations of the base antenna are created to see the effect on directivity due to the number of patches and their placement.
