A Multi-Dimensional Framework for Measuring Immersion in Gamified Learning: Theoretical Foundations, Practical Applications, and Future Directions
This study investigates the concept of immersion in game-based learning (GBL) environments, which has gained significant attention for its potential to enhance student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as Flow Theory, Emotional Design Theory, and Sociocultural Learning Theory, this research proposes a multi-dimensional immersion framework encompassing cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social dimensions. A preliminary questionnaire based on this framework has been developed to measure immersion in educational contexts, addressing the gaps in existing measurement tools that are often tailored for entertainment-based games. This framework provides both theoretical insights and practical applications, offering educators a systematic tool to assess and optimize immersive learning environments. By integrating elements such as adaptive technologies, real-time feedback, and gamification mechanics, this study sets the stage for future empirical validation and cross-cultural adaptation, paving the way for more effective use of gamified learning in diverse educational settings
