Reconfigurable Compact Antenna System with Gain Selectivity and Frequency Adaptability for Smartphone Integration

This paper presents a reconfigurable antenna system for seamless integration into compact smartphones. The system features a simple microstrip feeding method, ensuring straightforward fabrication and implementation. Two antennas working in Ka bands are realized on a single continuous substrate, enabling independent operation while maintaining a very low coupling of −42 dB. A key highlight of the design is its reconfigurability, achieved through port switching. This feature allows dynamic selection between narrowband and wideband frequency modes, offering flexibility for different communication requirements. The system also supports gain selectivity, enabling it to adapt its performance based on specific applications. This reconfigurable frequency response and gain switching combination enhances its efficiency and versatility in various scenarios. The antennas support beam switching at multiple frequencies, providing an angular coverage of 60 degrees, making the system suitable for directional communication. With its compact size, multi-frequency support, and advanced reconfigurability features, this antenna system is an excellent solution for next-generation wireless communication devices.
