Exploration and Application of Metaverse Technology in Empowering Emergency Management Practical Teaching

Practical teaching empowered by the metaverse is a current hotspot and frontier in educational research. This paper focuses on the “Emergency Management” course at S University, specifically the “Emergency Evacuation Simulation Drill for Community Residents in Emergency Situations,” as the research subject. By considering the learning needs of adult learners, the paper develops a metaverse-powered teaching design and implementation strategy, exploring innovative models of metaverse-empowered practical teaching. Through the creation of an immersive metaverse fire evacuation drill scenario and the adoption of the “Metaverse + Classin” interactive teaching model, this study overcomes the physical constraints of classroom space, strengthens interactions between teachers and students, as well as among students, and promotes the seamless integration of online and offline learning. Both qualitative and quantitative teaching evaluations and analyses demonstrate that metaverse technology not only stimulates students' interest and participation but also leads to a comprehensive enhancement of “knowledge-emotion-ability-values.” This research provides valuable insights into the design of metaverse-empowered practical teaching and the transformation of blended online and offline practical teaching models.
