A Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Based Wide Dynamic Range Displacement Sensor

In this work, a cylindrical dielectric resonator (CDR) based wide dynamic range displacement sensor is investigated. To enable this, a CDR is coupled to two transmission lines, which are orthogonal to each other. This orthogonal alignment exploits the reduction in cross-coupling between two transmission lines. Hence, the displacement sensitivity of the DR coupled to these lines is considerably improved, which is helpful for wider range displacement detection. The proposed sensor performance is numerically investigated and experimentally validated. The proposed sensor resonates at 3.67 GHz and provides 1.25 dB/mm sensitivity up to 0-30 mm.
