Active Cell Balancing Using Buck Boost Converter for Lithium-Ion Batteries
This paper explains the active cell balancing using Buck-Boost converter. The usage of petrol is main cause of greenhouse gasses and global warming, which are serious problems for all life on Earth, is the release of toxic gases from fossil fuels and cars that run on petroleum. Consequently, the idea of the electric vehicle and its commercialization aim to reduce the number of vehicles that run on fossil fuels. However, the issue of an uneven battery cell in an electric vehicle result in unacceptable and detrimental effects on the lifespan of the battery and operational duration, which in turn lowers public interest in electric vehicles. This study examined the problem of unbalanced cells and suggested a solution based on active cell balancing techniques with the Buck-Boost DC/DC Converter in this work, serially coupled Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) battery cells with the integration of many closed-loop control systems and algorithms. A constant load test is conducted on the suggested cell balancing system. The suggested model ultimately succeeded in bringing every cell to a state of balance, with each cell's State of Charge (SOC) being almost identical. This simulation model is developed with MATLAB/Simulink.
