Study of Half-Wavelength Dipole Radiation Characteristics in the Presence of Flat and Curved Plates

In practical scenarios, moving (aircrafts) or non-moving (buildings) platforms may have flat/curved nature in their geometrical construction. The presence of such platforms (flat and curved) in the vicinity of the dipole antenna have considerable impact on its radiation characteristics. In this paper, firstly, the role of distance of separation between the dipole and the plates (flat or curved) is presented. Further, the width of the flat plate is mathematically related to the curvature parameters of the curved plate to study the role of these curvature parameters. WiPL-D simulation tool is used for the simulations. Finally, two scenarios, the width of the flat plate is considered as <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\lambda$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3 \lambda$</tex>, and the corresponding two-dimensional equivalent area of the cylindrically curved plate having the radii of curvatures as <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\lambda$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3 \lambda$</tex> with angle of curvature (30°), for both cases, are considered for the validation. For both cases, the uniform theory of diffraction showed good agreement with the WiPL-D predictions.
