Development of Water Quality Monitoring System for Remote Aquaculture
This paper is on the development of water quality monitoring system for remote aquaculture management. Aquaculture industry is an important industry in Malaysia as it contributes to food security and economic growth. However, traditional fishpond monitoring methods relying on manual observation are inefficient and prone to errors. This study presents an IoT-based water quality monitoring system to improve real-time fishpond management. The system integrates water temperature sensor, pH sensor, and turbidity sensor. These sensors are connected to Arduino Uno microcontroller. Data is continuously collected and transmitted for real-time visualization and analysis using MATLAB Simulink. Field tests were conducted at two fishpond locations in Lenggong, Perak, Malaysia with samples collected three times daily. The results demonstrate that the system provides accurate, real-time monitoring of water quality parameters, which are essential for maintaining optimal fish health. This low-cost, energy-efficient solution offers significant potential for enhancing aquaculture productivity and sustainability, particularly in remote areas.
