Transparent Glass Antenna for Integrated on-Display Wireless Communication Applications

In this article a new type of transparent glass antenna developed for integrated on-display wireless communication applications. It functions as a completely transparent monolithic transparent layer on a substrate of glass with a low foot prints of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$20 \times 30 \times 1.5 ~\text{mm}^{3}$</tex>, setting the stage for integration with cutting-edge display technologies. We chose a thin layer of ‘silver conductive tape’ as the conductive material, providing a compromise between electrical performance and optical transparency. The referenced antenna functions at WLAN band frequency in 3.5 GHz and provides wireless uninterrupted oral communications. These results from simulated impedance, gain, and omnidirectionality radiation patterns prove that as one of the wireless communication systems, the device works faithfully. It enables smart displays, wearable devices, and automotive entertainment systems, while the small form factor and transparent design are suited for many applications. This would be an essential first step in creating aesthetically integrated, high-performance antennas that would be suitable for next-generation wireless communication devices.
