Low Profile UWB MIMO Antenna with Band Notched Characteristics

This paper proposes an ultra-wideband (UWB) 4-element multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna design with triple notch band features. The reference UWB MIMO antenna offers a notable 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 143% (2.0 GHz to 12.0 GHz) and achieves an average gain of 5.3 dBi across the operational frequency range. The band-notched characteristics are realized by incorporating split ring and concentric complementary split ring resonators into the antenna structure. The notched MIMO design exhibits peak VSWR values of 6.5 at 3.55 GHz and 5.65 GHz, and 3.8 at 8.21 GHz. The antenna also provides mutual coupling better than -15 dB and maintains envelope correlation coefficients below 0.03 over the entire working band. This design is well-suited for compact devices that demand high data rates and wide communication capabilities, such as IoT systems, drones, and autonomous vehicles.
