Quad-Port MIMO Antenna for Automotive Applications

Signals received from multiple directions within the automotive industry are susceptible to multipath fading. In order to overcome this challenge a quad-port MIMO antenna has been presented in this paper. The antenna consists of four hexagonal monopole radiators arranged orthogonal to each other, along with a modified ground plane. It also incorporates G-type stubs and E-type stubs for enhanced S-parameters. Truncations are introduced in the ground plane for improving impedance matching. The proposed antenna is created using the Antenna Toolbox from MATLAB. It operates in the 8 GHz to 12 GHz frequency range. The design exhibits strong port to port isolation. The dimensions of the MIMO antenna are <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$56 ~\text{mm} \times 56 ~\text{mm}$</tex>. The small size of the MIMO antenna allows for easy installation in automobiles.
