A Novel Passive Intelligent Reflective Surface for Enhancing Wireless Communication in Indoor Scenario
This paper presents the design and implementation of a novel passive Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) to improve the coverage in an indoor scenario. The proposed meta surface unit cell operating at a frequency of 10 GHz features a reflective complementary geometry, consisting of a cross-dipole-shaped slot at its center surrounded by a T shaped slot. The unit cell is designed on an FR4 substrate and implemented for an array of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$15 \times 15$</tex> reflective meta surface using 3D electromagnetic simulation tool Altair Feko. Additionally, the meta surface's performance in redirecting electromagnetic waves to improve coverage in an indoor scenario is validated using ray tracing propagation model in Altair WinProp. The simulated results demonstrate the meta surface's ability to address indoor coverage challenges, highlighting its potential in wireless communication applications.
