Huygens' Metasurface Based Leaky Wave Antenna for K-Band Applications
A novel Huygens' metasurface based leaky wave antenna is presented in this paper which works in the K-band frequency and can be used for arbitrary control of radiation characteristics. The Huygens' metasurface is composed of a 3layer structure in which each layer is having different size of Swastika-shaped metasurface elements and it replaces the top plate of the parallel-plate waveguide structure to form leaky wave antenna (LWA). The proposed LWA design exhibits highly directive beams with a directivity of 12.40 dB at 24 GHz having a beam-width of 10° and control over reflection with minimum return loss of −28 dB. The proposed LWA exhibits impedance bandwidth from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$22-28 \text{GHz}$</tex> w.r.t. −10 dB return loss. Here, the drawback of open-stopband effect is eliminated by the spurious Floquet mode suppression and thus single mode is excited and produced leaky wave radiation at broadside direction. The electromagnetic design and analysis of the LWA is carried out using full-wave method based Ansys HFSS software.
