Design of a Dual-Band Coplanar Waveguide Antenna for Bluetooth and 5G Applications

A coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed dual parasitic patched rectangular slotted dual-band monopole antenna is proposed. The proposed monopole is realized on a 1.6 mm thick FR4 dielectric substrate of dimensions <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.39 \lambda_{0} \times 0.39 \lambda_{0} \times 0.013 \lambda_{0} (50 \times 50 \times 1.6\text{mm} 3)$</tex>. It comprises a CPW-fed extended T-shaped monopole that produces the upper band and two rectangular parasitic patches at the diagonal corners of the patch that produce the lower band. The −10 dB impedance bandwidth ranges from 2.312 GHz-2.476 GHz in the lower band with 2.4 GHz center frequency. Also, it extends in the upper band from 3.468 GHz-3.73 GHz, with a peak gain of 3.20 dBi at 3.58 GHz. Thereby, it covers the IEEE 802.15.1 Bluetooth and 5G new radio <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$n 78$</tex> bands. The proposed antenna is simulated using CST software. The measured results are well correlated with the full wave simulated results.
