On the Path Loss Modeling of Anomalous Reflector-Assisted Indoor Wireless NLOS Link

In this paper, we present a hybrid semi-analytical radar cross-section (RCS)-based path loss model for anomalous reflector-assisted indoor NLOS wireless links. The path loss model is developed by first obtaining the RCS of the anomalous reflector from computational electromagnetic simulations followed by its application in modified RADAR range equation. To verify the proposed approach, we design an anomalous reflector at 10 GHz capable of steering normally incident radiation to 30° angle. Measurement results in the indoor environment at 10 GHz using both metal plate (specular reflector) and fixed scattering anomalous reflector of equal electrical size confirm that the proposed pathloss model has low computational complexity and reasonable accuracy in prediction of path-loss trends. However, in the indoor environment, the Rx antenna is placed in the nearfield of the anomalous reflector, which reduces the accuracy of the proposed technique, especially around the beam-focusing areas.
