Real-Time Bus Tracking Using LoRa Technology

Efficient and reliable transportation is crucial for large university campuses, and real-time bus tracking will greatly improve accessibility and convenience. Traditional tracking systems rely on GSM, Wi-Fi, or mobile data, which can be costly, power-intensive, and network-dependent. To address these challenges, this project introduces a LoRa-based bus tracking system that operates independently of cellular networks, ensuring low power consumption, long-range communication, and cost-effectiveness. The system consists of a GPS module (NEO-7M) that collects real-time location data, a LoRa transmitter (RYLR896 SX1276) that transmits the data, and a LoRa receiver that collects and displays the bus location. Using AT commands, the LoRa module was successfully configured and initial testing confirmed seamless transmission of GPS data. This approach eliminates network dependency, making it ideal for campus environments where reliable real-time tracking is essential. Further optimization and deployment of this system will increase transportation efficiency, reduce waiting times, and improve user experience for students and staff.
