Biocompatible Conformal Array Antenna for Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Operating at 1.4 GHz
Novel wireless capsule antenna for endoscopic applications has been proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna exhibits circular polarization with wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 57%. A flexible Roger's 3010 substrate is used for designing conformal array antenna. This antenna is protected from direct interaction with human biological tissues by being enclosed in a bio compatible alumina capsule. The designed capsule <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$18.5 \text{mm} \times 6.5 \text{mm} \emptyset$</tex> is comparably smaller. The overall antenna configuration achieves a gain of −17.6 dBi.
