Conformal Millimetre Wave Wearable Antenna for HealthCare Applications
In this work it covers the design, development and research of a conformal millimeter- wave (mm Wave) wearable antenna. The use of wearable technology requires miniaturized lightweight antennas which have relatively good efficiency figures even when placed in proximity to the human body. The antenna is furthermore developed on a cotton fabric, which is a flexible and light material with low relative permittivity (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}}=1.63$</tex>) that plays a crucial role in reducing surface wave losses and obtaining good impedance matching. The radiating patch and the ground plane are made of Perfect Electric Conductor, which improves conductivity and reduces losses so that the design systems are very efficient. The antenna radiates at 55 GHz in free space and has a bandwidth of 27 GHz with a peak gain of 7.06 dBi. Its dimensions are <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$7 \text{mm} \times 4.5 \text{mm} \times 1.5 \text{mm}$</tex>. To assess its strength, bending conditions were applied during the simulation and the antenna again worked at 64 GHz frequency with the bandwidth of 21 GHz and gain of 7.44 dBi. These outcomes confirm the antennas capability to continue working effectively in bent and on-body configurations and hence it is potentially suitable for use in wearable systems. The antenna is effective in free-space and body-centric environments owing to its geometric and conformal design which makes it applicable in healthcare systems, the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as other wireless systems with high data rates and low latency demands. CST v 2019 software is used for designing and simulation of proposed antenna.
