Performance Evaluation of a Compact Dual-Band Filtenna for C Band Applications

This paper presents design and simulation of a dualband filtenna. An end-coupled microstrip slow-wave resonator, a circular patch antenna, and a feeding microstrip line constitute a Filtenna. The suggested dual band filtenna configuration has wider bandwidth and offers higher selectivity. The filtenna is implemented on the FR4 substrate, having a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. The maximum gain of filtenna is 5.11 dBi at 5.4GHz and 6.48 dBi at 7.6 GHz frequency. This integration of filter and antenna leads to compact size <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(50 ~\text{mm} \times 40 ~\text{mm})$</tex> of filtenna with improved system performance suitable for wireless applications.

Abstract

This paper presents design and simulation of a dualband filtenna. An end-coupled microstrip slow-wave resonator, a circular patch antenna, and a feeding microstrip line constitute a Filtenna. The suggested dual band filtenna configuration has wider bandwidth and offers higher selectivity. The filtenna is implemented on the FR4 substrate, having a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. The maximum gain of filtenna is 5.11 dBi at 5.4GHz and 6.48 dBi at 7.6 GHz frequency.
