Uplink Sum-Rate Maximization for Pinching Antenna-Assisted Multiuser MISO Communications

The pinching-antenna system (PASS) employs dielectric waveguide along with small dielectric particles to reconfigure the wireless channel. The aim of this article is to optimize the uplink sum-rate of PASS-enabled multiuser channels using multiple pinched waveguides. One sum-rate maximization problem is formulated under minimum mean square error (MMSE) decoding, with successive interference cancellation (SIC). To address the optimization of pinching antenna locations, a fractional programming-based approach is proposed. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method and show consistent uplink sum-rate gains over conventional fixed-antenna systems —even when they use more antennas—and robustness under realistic in-waveguide loss.
