Wearable Dual Band EBG Antenna for Wireless Applications

Wearable textile antennas represent cutting-edge technology with applications across various domains such as military, sports, telemedicine, and tracking systems. This study focuses on designing a wearable monopole antenna with multi-band characteristics utilizing EBG structure, targeting the GSM 1.8 GHz and ISM 2.5 GHz applications. Jeans fabric used as a substrate, with a thickness of 1 mm with <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\varepsilon \mathrm{r}=1.7$</tex>. In this antenna rectangular slots are incorporated into the patch to achieve dual-band characteristics. The human body significantly affects the radiation patterns, necessitating the implementation of measures to mitigate detuning effects. The EBG structure is employed to mitigate these detuning effects caused by the proximity of the human body. The EBG structures reduce back lobe radiation and enhance antenna gain. To validate the antenna's performance, various characteristics such as return losses, radiation patterns, gain and efficiency are analyzed and presented. The proposed antenna design is simulated using CST microwave studio software. The results indicate that the proposed design is suitable for numerous real-time wireless applications.
