Wide-Band Dual Circularly Polarized Aperture Coupled ME Dipole MIMO Antenna for mm-Wave Applications

This paper presents the practical implementation of a wide-band dual circularly polarized (CP) magneto-electric dipole (M-ED) multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna designed and optimized for millimeter-wave (mmwave) applications. Using the aperture coupled feeding technique, the antenna shows wide impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 48.2% (from 22 to 34.5 GHz) with below 3dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 13% (from 24.2 to 27.6 GHz). The 2 -port device has one antenna supporting left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and the other right-hand circular polarization (RHCP). Thus, dual circular polarization can be achieved by switching between the ports. The antenna shows excellent diversity performance with higher isolation <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$S_{21}<-30 d B$</tex> and an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) <0.0001 within the used frequency range. This antenna also shows excellent gain, bandwidth, and efficiency performance, making it a perfect choice for new-generation high-speed satellite communication and 5G networks.
