Hybrid Waveguide Transmitarrays as Gain Enhancement Add-Ons in Traditional Antenna Array Systems for 5G FR2 Applications

This paper proposes a hybrid dielectric waveguide transmitarray (HDWT) as an add-on to enhance gain of traditional arrays. It combines the advantages of both transmitarray and lens technologies to improve gain of radiating beams from boresight up to 30° scan angles. The design of HDWT follows a multifocal approach. A prototype of HDWT is manufactured and gain improvements for boresight and 30° are measured to be about 6.9 dBi and 2.8 dBi, respectively for an <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$8 \times 8$</tex> patch array as a feeding device.

It combines the advantages of both transmitarray and lens technologies to improve gain of radiating beams from boresight up to 30° scan angles. The design of HDWT follows a multifocal approach.
