A Broadband Planar Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Applications

A novel structure, high-gain, planar monopole antenna is portrayed in this paper. The two primary elements of the proposed model are, a modified slotted rectangular radiator and a partially grounded plane loaded with a vertical hookshaped extended ground plane. The overall performance of antenna is enhanced by optimizing the dimension and positions of different sluts, stubs and extended ground plane simultaneously. The overall size of the designed antenna is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$30.8 ~\text{mm} \times 29 ~\text{mm} \times 1.6 ~\text{mm}$</tex>. Abstract

The proposed antenna offers a broad impedance bandwidth (IBW) of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$7.4 \text{GHz}(3.2 \text{GHz}-10.6 \text{GHz}, 107.25 \%)$</tex>. The designed antenna also provides two operational bands, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$5.38 \text{GHz}(3.2 \text{GHz}-8.58 \text{GHz}, 91.3 \%)$</tex> for linear polarization and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2.1 \text{GHz}(8.58 \text{GHz}-10.68 \text{GHz}, 22 \%)$</tex> for circular polarization. The peak gain of the proposed antenna is enhanced up to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{4. 6 ~ d B i}$</tex> by using extended ground plane This developed antenna suitable for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications along with different <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{C}$</tex> band and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{X}$</tex> band wireless applications.
