Democracia intrapartidista en América Latina. ¿qué dicen los estatutos partidistas en sistemas presidenciales?

This research aims to determine the level of internal democracy in Latin American political parties, based on the framework developed by Von dem Berge and Poguntke of 2017. It seeks to answer how parties are organized under two democratic forms: assembly-based and plebiscitary. The study applies an analytical model originally designed for the analysis of political parties in parliamentary systems, contrasting it within presidential contexts. The article, descriptive and comparative in nature, employs mixed methods, highlighting the analysis of official party documents and the construction of indices. The results show that Latin American political parties exhibit higher levels in their plebiscitary dimension. Likewise, the study finds that multiparty and institutionalized systems display greater levels of internal democracy compared to atomized and non-institutionalized ones. Finally, it acknowledges that the typologies generated for parliamentary democracies are relevant and replicable in Latin American presidential systems.
