A dual-band dual-polarization metasurface filter with high-selectivity passband and wide-angle stability properties

Abstract Electromagnetic (EM) filters, integral components of EM control devices, are extensively employed in communication and sensor detection. However, traditional design methods for these filters are intricate and time-consuming. To address this, we propose the transfer matrix method (TMM) as an auxiliary design approach. The proposed approach necessitates only the straightforward extraction of relative permittivity and permeability from the metasurface pattern layer, eliminating the need to consider its geometric topology. Employing TMM, we design a bandpass metasurface filter with independent dual-frequency, dual-polarization, and high selectivity. Notably, compared to conventional designs, our method optimizes the entire multi-layer metasurface system by integrating it into a periodic combination of pattern and dielectric layers. This circumvents challenges associated with numerous numerical simulations and complex structures that are challenging to represent equivalently. Furthermore, this physics-inspired design methodology boasts universality, interpretability, and enhanced computational efficiency.
