Risk assessment of neck phlegmon development in oral cavity diseases
This article addresses the assessment of the risk of developing neck phlegmon as a potential complication of dental diseases. Neck phlegmon, representing a diffuse purulent inflammation of the cervical fascial spaces, is a life-threatening condition that often arises against the background of infectious processes in the oral cavity. Timely diagnosis and adequate therapy in this clinical context are determining factors ensuring a favorable outcome. Given the high risk of systemic complications associated with the spread of infection, assessing the likelihood of neck phlegmon development in dental diseases is of particular importance. Identifying patients with an increased predisposition to this condition allows not only for predicting the disease course but also for formulating individualized prevention and treatment strategies. This, in turn, contributes to minimizing the probability of life-threatening consequences and improving the overall clinical prognosis. The analysis of risk factors, such as the location and nature of the primary infectious focus, the patient's immunological status, as well as the anatomical features of the cervical regions, should become an integral part of a comprehensive approach to treating dental infections. The implementation of such approaches requires interdisciplinary collaboration between dentists, maxillofacial surgeons, and infectious disease specialists to ensure effective and timely medical care.
