MASTER: An Evaluation and Optimization Model for Sustainable Tourism Management

The rapid growth of international travel has led to the rise of many famous places, which has sometimes led to the problem of overtourism. This phenomenon is a major threat to the health of local ecosystems and cultural heritage. The MASTER model, which is the main idea of this paper, combines six important parts of these problems and encourages the growth of sustainable tourism. This paper talks about management, assessment, sustainability, tourism, the environment, and the people who live there. We used Juneau, Alaska, as a case study to create and use the MASTER model. At first, the model used the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to identify important indicators and then the right weights. This model gave the most weight to resident satisfaction, which was 0.283. So, a multi-objective nonlinear optimization model was made to find the best way to make money while keeping environmental and social costs as low as possible. This analysis was done to find a balance between development and conservation. We used a genetic algorithm (GA) to find the best values for the combined goal U and its Uthreshold when we were done solving the multi-objective nonlinear optimization model. It is clear that the computer results have led to high-quality, realistic suggestions for how to improve tourism management in Juneau.
