Development and Educational Benefits of Interactive Content for Visualizing Cosmic Ray Air Showers in a 3D Panoramic Sphere
We developed and evaluated an interactive tool that visualizes cosmic ray air showers in a 3D panoramic sphere for use in science museums and elementary education. By overlaying 3D animations onto 360° stereoscopic images, the system offers an immersive learning experience via VR headsets and YouTube-compatible formats. Deployed in a regional museum and two schools, the content was used over 11,000 times and significantly increased students’ interest in cosmic rays. Using the AIDMA model, we observed strong attention and interest, though fewer students pursued further learning. Hands-on experiences like VR and cloud chambers played a key role in engagement and memory, highlighting the value of immersive media in STEAM education.
