Enhancing ATM Security Through A Dynamic Card Number Generator Framework

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape of digital transactions, the security of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card systems remains a critical concern. Traditional static ATM card numbers, though convenient, are increasingly vulnerable to cloning, skimming, and unauthorized access. This research developed a system for generating dynamic ATM card numbers to enhance the security and resilience of ATM-based financial transactions. The system was modeled using Unified Modelling Language (UML) to represent its structural and functional components, and implemented with Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Bootstrap, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and JavaScript. To strengthen security, a One-Time Password (OTP) feature was incorporated, ensuring additional authentication during dynamic ATM card number generations. The dynamic card number is generated upon each user request and remains valid for 10 minutes, thereby minimizing the risk of exploitation in case of interception. Evaluation of the system was conducted through questionnaires designed with Google Forms. Results indicated that 50% of respondents experienced no challenges while using the system, 30% reported encountering some difficulties, 10% expressed uncertainty about its clarity, and another 10% had not previously interacted with the system. The findings demonstrate that dynamic ATM card numbers offer a promising solution to mitigate security breaches in digital transactions. By ensuring that card numbers change with each transaction, the risk and potential damage from stolen card information is significantly reduced. This innovation presents a viable framework for enhancing the security of financial systems and provides a foundation for future improvements in secure electronic payment technologies. Abstract
