Time Zone Management in Global Volunteer Networks
This article examines the challenges and strategies of managing time zones in global volunteer networks. It analyzes structural barriers caused by asynchronous schedules and dispersed geographies, discusses digital tools for coordination, and evaluates organizational practices such as rotating schedules and anticipatory planning. The “Follow the Sun” model is highlighted as an advanced method for leveraging time zone differences as an asset. Real-world case illustrations demonstrate how organizations improve participation, fairness, and efficiency by combining structured scheduling, asynchronous communication, and flexible arrangements.
