The author attempted to show changes in the way old age is presented in the literature of the last half century. She drew attention to the increased interest in late adulthood and the intensity of research presenting it in a way that differs from stereotypical beliefs. Analyzing reasons for the modifications, the author highlighted the fact that research was anchored in the psychology of the course of human life. The broader context of globalization was also taken into account.
