Enhanced Multifocus Image Fusion via Discrete Wavelet Decomposition and Bilateral Filtering

Generating an all-in-focus image by aggregating multiple images taken using various focus settings depends on multifocus image fusion (MFIF). This work provides a novel method to improve fusion quality by combining bilateral filtering with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). DWT is used in the suggested approach for multi-resolution analysis, hence separating approximation and detail coefficients. While bilateral filtering guarantees edge preservation and noise reduction, low-frequency components are merged via weighted averaging and high-frequency details are increased. Using accepted criteria, the suggested method performs better than most current state-of-the-art techniques in terms of mutual information, structural similarity, and edge clarity. These outcomes underline the effectiveness of the suggested approach for practical uses in medical imaging and other fields.
