Joint Transmission and Reception in Optical Wireless-Integrated FTTR Systems

This paper investigates joint transmission and reception strategies in optical wireless-integrated Fiber-to-the-room (FTTR) systems. The study focuses on optimizing the performance of these hybrid home networking systems by coordinating Wi-Fi access across sub-fiber units (SFUs) covering the end user. In the downlink, joint transmission (JT) is employed to enhance signal quality by aligning transmitted signals across antennas in multiple SFUs. For the uplink, joint reception (JR) is utilized to maximize the received signal strength and reduce noise through coordinated antenna beamforming. The system model incorporates multi-antenna configurations and analyzes channel capacity improvements under both independent and coordinated scenarios. Test results demonstrate the significant performance gains achieved by JT and JR. These findings show the potential of integrating optical and wireless technologies in FTTR systems to deliver high-capacity, reliable connectivity in various indoor environments. It is a salient solution to enhance the Wi-Fi user indoor experience beyond the current level of 100 Mbps.
