Grid Connected Single Stage PV System by Using Super Twisting Sliding Mode Controllers
Grid connected Photovoltaic (PV) systems have been gaining attention from various scholars due to their numerous applications at various fields. Among many configurations, grid connected single stage PV system is popular for medium and low voltage applications. The inverter placed between grid and PV system will be acting as maximum power point tracking (MPPT) device which eliminate an extra dc circuit in the single stage grid connected configuration. A stable and novel control strategy must be implemented to achieve the numerous objectives in this type of configurations including compensation of reactive power, transferring active power into grid, unbalanced compensation, etc. So that quality power can be supplied at local load bus. Super twisting sliding mode controller (STSMC) is prioritized over other controllers when there are rapid changes in the inputs (irradiance, load, oscillations, temperature etc). Consequently, this paper presents the development of a STSMC based single-stage control methodology for a grid integrated 1.0MW PV system. Various loads including unbalanced, nonlinear, reactive are operating in a distribution system. These loads are causing many issues which lead a poor power quality. Consequently, the proposed control method is implemented to assist in improving power quality by nullify those issues under various operating scenarios. The Hardware - in the - Loop (HIL) is made by utilizing OPAL-RT technologies to present various outcomes for examining the responses of proposed methodology.
