Inductance Computation of Submarine Three-Core Cables Based on the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit Method
The per-unit-length series inductance of three-core submarine cables is an important parameter for network analysis and cable design. Starting from an existing Partial Element Equivalent Circuit formulation, this work proposes an efficient energy-based approach for the computation of this important parameter. To validate the proposed approach, the results are compared with those obtained from a Finite Element Method reference model for straight and twisted cable geometries. In addition, the influence of the twisting on the inductance is investigated. In all test cases, the proposed method demonstrates good agreement with the reference model.
