Decision Revise: An Exploratory Framework of Land-Sea Movement Model for Early Austronesians Migration. Round#1

presents a substantial innovation in least-path cost analysis, as it developed a framework adapted for sea movement and inland waters. On a methodological point of view, this study brings new ideas on how to adapt least-cost paths to the water resource, which have long been seen as a potential barrier (Herzog, 2014).This reproducible methodology, utilising only a few global inputs (wind speed, wind direction), enables us to identify potential differences between migration and seamovementsements.Furthermore, this paper also feeds fundamental research on the origins and spread of the Austronesian population from the Yangtze River Delta, towards the rest of the Pacific islands (Yang et al. 2020).I recommend this paper, as it not only presents several methodological breakthroughs but also offers a new perspective on oceans, portraying them not as a limitation for population growth but rather as a means of rapid movement (Bellwood 1979).

Abstract

presents a substantial innovation in least-path cost analysis, as it developed a framework adapted for sea movement and inland waters.
