THE STREAM LEARNING CENTER AT NANJING ZHONGHUA HIGH SCHOOL, CHINA: CLIMATE ADAPTIVE DESIGN OF CENTRALIZED EDUCATIONAL SPACES
ABSTRACT The STREAM Learning Center of Nanjing Zhonghua High School Yuhua Campus is a design produced under the background of educational reform in China, aiming to explore a new type of educational space design adapted to the future needs of education. Taking the advanced educational concept and new educational spatial pattern as the starting point, the project proposes a centralized educational space layout with an atrium as the core, while also exploring the climate-adaptive design of new educational spaces. In order to study the environmental performance of the centralized educational spaces, simulations, comparisons and optimizations are carried out by using DesignBuilder, Phoenics, and ClimateStudio software, which are used to support the architectural design decision-making at the early stages of the project with a view to achieve low-carbon operation and a sustainable campus environment, providing guiding principles and practical references for future innovations in educational architecture and the development of green buildings.
