FLEXIBLE RISK MANAGEMENT IN PROJECTS BASED ON THE KANBAN METHODOLOGY
The article explores approaches to flexible risk management in project activities based on the Kanban methodology. Special attention is paid to how process visualization and Work in Progress (WIP) limitations contribute to the identification and mitigation of risks related to missed deadlines, task accumulation, loss of focus, or misalignment in team collaboration. The paper analyzes scientific publications by Ukrainian researchers regarding the effectiveness of Kanban in the context of risk management, highlighting key advantages of this approach compared to traditional methods. Examples of Kanban implementation in Ukrainian IT companies are presented, with descriptions of delay forecasting mechanisms and the formation of adaptive response strategies. Practical recommendations are provided for implementing Kanban as a risk management tool in highly dynamic environments. The findings of the article are valuable for project managers, team leaders, and organizations seeking to minimize risks and enhance the stability of project execution through transparency, visual control, and process adaptability. Furthermore, the study emphasizes that Kanban is not merely a scheduling or task management system but a comprehensive cultural approach to visual governance and proactive response. Implementing Kanban enables teams to continuously evaluate workflow efficiency, detect potential blockers before they escalate, and respond with timely adjustments. Through iterative feedback loops, teams become more resilient and agile in facing unpredictable conditions and evolving stakeholder expectations. In addition, the visual clarity provided by Kanban boards fosters a shared understanding of responsibilities and priorities, reducing the risks of miscommunication and delays. This collaborative visibility is especially critical in cross-functional or distributed teams where alignment is often difficult to maintain. The article calls for further empirical research to evaluate the comparative performance of Kanban in high-risk project environments and proposes a roadmap for integrating Kanban principles with enterprise-level governance models to scale its benefits across organizational layers.
