Spin Polarization in the AgC6 Photodetector Based on the Photogalvanic Effect

First-principles calculations and quantum transport simulations were employed to investigate the spin-dependent photogalvanic effect in the AgC 6 photodetector under linearly polarized light conditions, which can generate the experimentally observed photocurrents. By controlling different vacancies and substitution doping, the symmetry of the AgC 6 photodetector is reduced from the original [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text], resulting in amplifications of 1–4 orders on photocurrent magnitude compared to the original values, along with excellent polarization sensitivity. Moreover, the results established that the vacancy-C 1 and Ag-doping(C 2 ) situations can generate higher photocurrents, pure spin current and full spin polarization, thereby demonstrating the excellent performance of the AgC 6 photodetector in experimental settings. Furthermore, spin-dependent photocurrents demonstrated considerable anisotropic characteristics, which can be modulated by polarization/phase angle or photon energy, respectively. This work underlines considerable application values of AgC 6 monolayer in the field of photogalvanic effect-driven photodetector, thus establishing a novel platform for developing high-efficiency optoelectronic and spintronic devices.
